Dr. Julie Vargasis a member of the Spy Coast Farm Team. She heads up the Sport Horse Medicine and Rehabilitation divisions in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Julie Vargas is a graduate of the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a hospital and an ambulatory internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY before joining a sport horse practice in Wellington, FL. She completed her veterinary acupuncture certification at Chi Institute and her chiropractic/spinal manipulation certification at the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute, both in Reddick, FL. Dr. Vargas has a passion for equine sport horse medicine and strives to find the best outcome for her patients combining years of conventional veterinary medical practice with alternative and regenerative therapies.

Christie serves as program director for The Right Horse Initiative, which seeks to make lasting, transformative improvements to equine welfare in the United States by massively increasing equine adoption. She graduated magna cum laude from Colorado State University with degrees in Equine Science and Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. She has also earned certificates in Strategic Planning and Meeting Facilitation Strategies from the University of Texas Governor’s Center for Management Development. Christie is a skilled program and marketing manager with experience assembling equine industry partners to collaborate on complex industry-wide issues. Prior to joining the ASPCA’s Right Horse, she led marketing and partner development for the American Horse Council’s Time to Ride Initiative and has held other roles in marketing, event production and management in the horse industry.

Mary Elena Moran of Goshen, NY has been professionally training horses for the last 18 years. Mary Elena is a multi-disciplined competitor and specializes in natural horsemanship, police horse training, positive reinforcement, and rescue transformations. Mary Elena’s passion lies in transforming rescued horses to be police horses as ambassadors of the ultimate rescue transformation. In transforming these rescued horses, Mary Elena has learned that the greatest gifts from the horse have been life lessons in leadership, confidence, kindness, and self awareness. To believe in a person allows them to believe in themselves, and to believe in a horse, holds that very same power. Mary Elena states, “I like to consider myself a cheerleader for the horse and have made confidence building the foundation of my horse training program.” Mary Elena holds a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice-Police Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, is a certified mounted police instructor, a Level 3 Harmony Horsemanship Instructor, as well as a certified practitioner of Equine Facilitated Learning modalities: Natural Lifemanship with a Trauma Focus and Equine Experiential Education.

Kim Bauer is a well-known expert and educator in the field of Animal Acupressure and Massage. She began her coursework in Animal Acupressure and Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1999 and then in January of 2005 after fourteen years as a Middle School and Elementary School teacher, Kim created her business, Animal Ease Therapies. She creates individualized, integrated bodywork sessions for each animal that combines her knowledge of Acupressure, Massage, Temperament Typing, and numerous other modalities that she has studied over the years. Additionally, Kim is an instructor for the Northwest School of Animal Massage and oversees and teaches the Acupressure certification programs as well as a number of online course offerings.

Nahshon Cook was thirteen years old when he took his first riding lesson on an old professor named Willy at the Urban Farm at Stapleton, where he was a student in their Embracing Horses riding program for five years. During that time he was introduced to the art of Classical Dressage: a scientific system of equitation based on the mental development of the saddle horse proceeding greater physical demands. He has since been a devoted practitioner to this method of building partnerships with horses.

She credits a horse that was given away due to dangerous behavior under saddle and its unpredictable nature for gifting her the need to seek out clicker training mentors and horse behavior experts, who led her on the fascinating journey of positively shaping horse behavior.
