Martha Cook has been horse crazy since the day she first spotted the pinto pony at a neighboring dairy farm in the rural town of Westmoreland in southern New Hampshire. Riding lessons began at age five, followed by her own horse, a wild four-year-old Morgan mare, at the age of 12. After graduating with a degree in history from Mount Holyoke College, Martha moved to Vermont for an entry-level job at what is now known as Trafalgar Square Books. She never thought that job would become a lifetime career, however, many years later Martha is the managing director of the leading publisher of equestrian books. She has owned horses continually, and there’s always a Morgan in the barn, now keeping company with an off-the-track Quarter Horse. Besides the horse obsession that has never waned, she is an avid gardener and enjoys maintaining a trail network for riding, biking, and skiing with her husband in Hartland, Vermont.
